Listening with a PC

If you want to listen to a radiostation with your PC, you need to have a media player installed on your PC which is capable to play the stream format the radiostation is using.

The stream formats which are supported by Channelservice.fm are the following:

MP3    
WMA   
AAC+    
Ogg Vorbis   

If you click on the   icon, the stream format can be of any of the above mentioned types. However, most of the stations use the MP3 or WMA types.

Many stations also support more than 1 format. This is also supported by Channelservice.fm. If you click on the icon, you can see which formats are available.
The reason for this is there – unfortunately - is no media players on the market which supports all the formats properly. We at Channelservice.fm have done our utmost best to accommodate you as much as possible.

We have experience with some popular free media players and have summarized our findings below.

If you are on Windows:

Winamp
If you are on Windows, we really recommend using this media player. This is one of the best choices in our opinion. Download and install it here.

MP3, AAC+ and OGG: plays all streams.
WMA: plays most of the streams on Channelservice.fm. Some ASX playlists have troubles.

iTunes
MP3: plays all streams.
WMA, AAC+ and OGG: not supported.

Windows Media Player 11

MP3: plays many of the streams on Channelservice.fm, but  PLS playlists are not supported.
WMA: Plays all streams.
AAC+: No standard support, but only with a special decoder. More information on http://www.orban.com/plugin/. PLS playlists are not supported.
OGG: No standard support, but plays many of the streams on Channelservice.fm with a special decoder. More information on http://www.illiminable.com/ogg/. PLS playlists are not supported.

If you are using Unix/Linux: (not tested by us..):

VLC

MP3, WMA, OGG, AAC+: supported.

XMMS, MPG123, Xaudio, MPlayer

MP3: supported.
other formats: unknown.

If you are on Mac: (not tested by us..):

MP3: supported.
WMA, AAC+ and OGG: not supported.

VLC

Flip4mac (Windows Media Player for Mac)
